My second Honors Experience was a seminar taught by Dr. Jeff Kastner and Professor Greg Sizemore. It was called Teamwork and Leadership from within. This class taught me so much more than I can express in a simple paper, but I'll try my best to share it with everyone reading this. The class began with both instructors telling us that we would all be using only first names (including themselves) as a show of mutual respect. From that moment on, the tone was set to be respectful, to learn, and to have a lot of fun together in the process. We went on a weekend retreat to Winton Woods, we worked with Junior Achievement to tutor 1st graders in the local community, and we worked hard in class and on homework to develop as leaders.
The connections that I made while in this class are unbelievable. Professor Sizemore introduced our class to several other professors, businessmen, and leaders from all walks of life. Getting to know platoon commanders from the Vietnam War, and also architects who work in Washington DC and getting to see their personal leadership styles was an experience that is truly priceless. With that said, the most valuable connections are those that were made between students. I met people older than me and younger than me, and I learned so much from each and every on of them as we "Did life together on Wednesday nights."
My second Honors Experience is also my second leadership themed experience. I loved my first experience, and the second only served to confirm that I have a passion for leadership. That being said, I would like to have some experience in the other thematic areas. Looking forward, I'm interested to see what my future experiences will entail. I don't have a plan for my next experience yet, but I do know that it'll be something new and challenging that will continue to push the boundaries of personal growth.
Below is an artifact that I will treasure from this class for the rest of my life. Reflections contained below are a study guide that I can constantly come back to in times of uncertainty. This document is truly something that I have taken away from this experience, and will continue to reference.
